Increasing Concentrations of Property Values in the US
December 10, 2012
Insured building values in the US now exceed $40 trillion, including residential, commercial and industrial structures. When contents and time element exposures are added in, the insured property values swell to over $80 trillion. Along with increasing values, there are more concentrated pockets of exposure, particularly in areas vulnerable to natural catastrophes.
The RiskInsight® open and transparent risk management platform includes a detailed database of industry exposures by five digit ZIP code and occupancy class that has now been updated to 2012 values. Insurers and reinsurers use this database (KPD) for risk management purposes and for strategic planning. Credible industry exposure figures enable companies to estimate industry losses, calculate their market shares of exposures and losses, and to evaluate alternative growth strategies.
