Australia Earthquake Reference Model
The KCC Australia Earthquake Reference Model captures the potential for damaging intraplate events with KCC's unique Characteristic Event (CE) methodology
Australia Earthquake Snapshot
Every year, Australia is impacted by multiple magnitude 5.0 or larger earthquakes—over 370 have occurred since 1900. Even though the continent is positioned away from any plate boundaries, seismicity is generated by stress transfer from the movement of surrounding plates. The KCC Australia Earthquake Reference Model utilizes historical seismicity and seismic source modeling based on data from Geoscience Australia as well as KCC's Characteristic Event (CE) methodology to comprehensively capture risk in the region, which has no known or characterized seismic zones.
