Hurricanes are frequent occurrences in the Caribbean which includes the group of volcanic islands surrounding the Caribbean Sea. Warm sea surface temperatures and abundant moisture lead to an average of more than four hurricanes affecting the region every year. Two of the most recent damaging hurricanes in the Caribbean, Irma, and Maria, are examples of intense storms that made landfall on multiple islands. The KCC Caribbean Hurricane Model captures the correlations between the islands, Central America, Mexico, and the US.
