2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season in Review
January 25, 2021
The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season was an above-average hurricane season that started with an early-season landfalling tropical storm and continued through November. A total of thirty named storms formed in the basin, a new record, and twelve of them made landfall in the US, breaking the previous record of nine set in 1916. For each storm, KCC monitored impacts in the US, Mexico, and Caribbean. For Hurricane Laura, the only major US landfalling hurricane of the season, KCC scientists conducted a post-event damage survey in Texas and Louisiana.
