CATLAB™ Workshop: Severe Convective Storm (SCS) Modeling
Boston, MA – July 20, 2017
Insured losses from severe convective storms (SCS) have been above average for the past decade with multi-billion dollar events increasing in frequency. The most recent KCC CATLAB™ Workshop highlighted tools available to insurers and reinsurers to evaluate impacts of SCS on their portfolios and to examine potential climatological trends contributing to increasing SCS losses.
Held in Boston from July 18-19, the immersive educational experience included an in-depth view of the science, methodology, and validation of the KCC US SCS Reference Model, a hands-on demonstration of the software, and discussions with insurers and reinsurers about the practical applications of the model. Additionally, Dr. Michael Tippett from Columbia University discussed climatological factors influencing SCS events, including ENSO and climate change.
